Counselling Yourself

It is widely known that you understand an idea much better when you explain it to someone. I wonder if its the same with counselling. When you are counselling someone, you might see something from a different perspective, you might try to find words to articulate a thought you didn't find the need to put to words before. It is easier to see harmful behaviour in someone else, and compare your own behaviour than to turn the mirror on yourself. Likewise, sometimes one offers words of solace to another person, and takes solace from those words for their own personal situation. Learning from the mistakes of others, learning from the experiences of others, is a great human ability. Being able to put yourself in someone else's shoes enables us to empathize with them but also gain insights that we could use in our own lives.
