What you believe and what you think you believe (or should believe) are sometimes very different things. I had a session with my therapist today, and my first reaction was that it was not very useful. It took me a few hours to realize that the session had helped me acknowledge an aspect of my personality that I had always tried to deny because it clashed with my view of myself. Or rather, my view of what I should be like because that was the path of virtue. The acknowledgement is by no means earth-shattering, and it may not result in a radical change in behaviour but it still feels liberating. It will result in a more healthy attitude towards my behaviour and that is something.
