Observing close friends and lovers interact can often be a tiresome experience, because they are in a world of their own. They revel in each other's presence, not words or actions. Which is why, to an observer, their words and actions might seem irritatingly banal. He would probably judge them as banal uninteresting people, which would be his loss.
